What is right for you?

The Helpline offers confidential one-to-one telephone support. The Helpline team are all experienced support workers. They can listen, offer support and give information if you want it.

The Helpline is open: Mon–Fri ,1000 –1600. Outside these hours there is an answer phone and you can leave message.

SANDS Befrienders

SANDS befrienders are all bereaved parents who offer support to other bereaved parents in their local area.

The befrienders can talk to you on the phone. Some may be able to visit you. They have all gone through SANDS befriender training programme, and all work on a voluntary basis.

Most befrienders are part of a local SANDS support group, but calling a befriender doesn’t mean you have to attend a meeting if you don’t want to.

To get in touch with your nearest befriender please contact the SANDS office for their details. Your local maternity unit may also have their contact details.

SANDS local support groups

SANDS local support groups are run by and for bereaved parents. They offer group meetings and informal gatherings where you can share your experience and feelings about your baby, with other parents in a confidential and supportive environment.

Attending your first meeting can be difficult and does take courage, but parents will find a network of support, understanding, encouragement and friendship. Nothing is required of you; you need not speak one word. Initially, just being in the company of other people who have had similar experiences can be enough. (Click here to read about a parents’ own experience of going to their first meeting)

You can find where nearest group is by clicking here. Please contact SANDS office to ask for a group’s contact details.
