Shared experiences

Very many thanks to all the parents, siblings, families and friends, who have allowed us to share their experiences on this site.

Personal Experience of going to a support meeting

We went along to our first SANDS meeting not sure what to expect, and ready to bolt if we were uncomfortable. But it was really informal and comforting in a way to be among strangers who knew our pain. We found ourselves listening and talking (with a lump in my throat at first) about our experiences and others shared their experiences and their babies’ names. It was reassuring to know that we weren’t insane but just deeply hurt and bereaved and that a lot of things that we were feeling were normal.

We wanted to know when the pain would stop, how to cope and was there hope for the future? We met people at various stages of loss and others who were newly bereaved. The meeting flew past and we came away with hope and comfort. We had thought we were alone and suddenly there was a room full of people who had lost babies – not statistics but real people and little ones.

Only those who have been there really understand. There is hope and we would like to thank all of the people who have touched our lives through SANDS and given us hope for the future.
