Thank You and an Update on the Blanket Knitting Project
Thank You and an Update on the Blanket Knitting Project For Sands Always Loved, Never Forgotten Memory Boxes
Dear Knitters
I am sure you would like to know that, thanks to you all, we have had a magnificent response to our request for people to knit blankets for our Always Loved, Never Forgotten Memory Boxes.
It has been most touching and heart warming to know that people across the UK and abroad have supported our project by knitting themselves and/or asking friends and acquaintances to knit. Many moving messages that have been sent with the blankets shared memories of babies who had died. Special mention and thanks needs to be made here to the knitting charity Bonnie Babes www.bonniebabies.co.uk. Based in Scotland with knitters all over the UK, their members were given a challenge by their founder Debby to knit 200 baby blankets for Sands by July 2009. Special thanks also to Lou and her knitters at www.lovinghands.org.uk who sent us several large parcels of blankets.
Wherever possible we have tried to thank you individually for your wonderful contributions. For anyone who has not received an acknowledgement and thank you for the gift of your time and skill, please know that your blankets have arrived safely and we appreciate your thoughtfulness.
Bereaved parents have told us how they have been helped through receiving a Sands Always Loved, Never Forgotten Memory Box with a hand knitted blanket inside.
Sponsorship of Sands Always Loved, Never Forgotten Memory Boxes
It is possible to sponsor a Sands Memory Box and we now have donation cards which can be placed in the boxes. Hospitals often don’t have a budget for such items and so welcome the donation of boxes. Many of our Sands Groups have purchased boxes for their local hospitals and the Midlands District Lions Club have raised funds to provide boxes for all hospitals in their region. We have also had many people sponsor a box individually or with friends.
A complete Always Loved, Never Forgotten Memory Box costs £15.00
If you would like to sponsor a box, please send your donations made payable to 'Sands' to:
Sue Hale, Group Services Manager, Sands, 78 Holme Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham NG2.
With our very best wishes for this New Year and new decade and our grateful thanks to you all
Sue Hale, Group Services Manager and Catherine Swain, Group Services Assistant
