Wrexham AFC player, Jordan Davies and partner, Kelsey Edwards bravely shared their story about the loss of their son Arthur on episode 12 of the documentary, Welcome to Wrexham (Disney+).
The series documents behind the scenes of Hollywood stars, Rob McElhenny and Ryan Reynolds, who took over Wrexham Football Club. The show often focusses on the personal stories of team members, club supporters and the Wrexham community.
The latest episode follows the stories of new signings Ollie Palmer, Aaron Hayden and Jordan Davies. Jordan, a local to Wrexham, met his partner Kelsey at school at 15 and they've been together ever since.
Kelsey reveals she had a miscarriage during covid and talked of their excitement at finding out she was pregnant again.
Kelsey shared the sad news that Arthur was stillborn at 27 weeks in December 2021, she said “It was heartbreaking; really difficult”. The couple commented on the outpouring of support they received saying “Releasing it [to social media] was actually the best thing we [could have] done.”
Jordan says - “I couldn’t believe how open-armed everyone was to have a chat with me and people asking me if I was ok”.
Kelsey also mentioned that talking with others who had been through a similar experience connected her to Sands.
Jordan and Kelsey were offered support by Sands and health professionals at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. The couple praised the care they received from midwives and the opportunity to spend precious time with Arthur in a bereavement suite funded by Sands, which was specially created for bereaved families.
Jordan and Kelsey also received a memory box from Sands, which they said allowed them to create cherished memories with baby Arthur.
Shortly after the death of their son, Jordan and Kelsey set up a fundraising page for Sands in memory of Arthur to which Wrexham AFC owners, Rob McElhenny and Ryan Reynolds donated along with their wives Kaitlyn Olson and Blake Lively.
