Sands is committed to ensuring that its service is accessible to all bereaved families regardless of their ethnicity, language, religion or any other factor. It wishes to widen access to its services for Black and Minority Ethnic communities, many of whom have high rates of stillbirth and neonatal death. The initial focus is on improving support to Asian communities.
We wish to find out:
1. Where bereaved Asian families currently find bereavement support; whether this meets their need; and what barriers they face in accessing this support.
2. What kinds of support and information would be most useful to these families, and how Sands could work with others to most effectively provide that support.
The project seeks to interview, in confidence, Asian families who have suffered a stillbirth or neonatal death and anyone involved in supporting them. We will be interviewing until October 2013, by phone or in person.
If you feel you could contribute to our research, and support Sands in finding out how to better support Asian communities, please contact the Project Manager, Fiona Gell, on email@example.com, or telephone: 07805 221303 (Mon, Tues, Thurs 9.30am-2.30pm). She will refer you for an interview with one of the Project Workers, each of whom is a Sands Befriender and Chair of a local Sands group. Interviews can be carried out in Urdu, Hindi or Punjabi as well as English.
Many thanks for your interest.
