Antenatal classes
Many bereaved parents find it very hard to attend ordinary antenatal classes for a subsequent pregnancy. If your baby who died was born before you had completed a course of antenatal classes, you may have missed out on important information about birth or what happens afterwards. You may also want to practice relaxation and other techniques before this baby is born. You could ask the midwives if they can offer you individual sessions, or contact Sands as some groups organise antenatal classes for bereaved parents.
If you decide to go to ordinary antenatal classes, it is helpful to tell the leader beforehand that you have had a baby who died. This will help her to understand what you may be feeling. You may also want to tell her whether you want the other people in the class to know or not.
