Tunbridge Wells Garden
"The mention of my child's name may bring tears to my eyes but it never fails to bring music to my ears. If you are really my friend let me hear the beautiful music of their name. It soothes my broken heart and sings to my soul."
The inscription around The Babies and Children's Memorial Garden at the Tunbridge Wells Crematorium could not have been more apt. Intended as a place to provide peace, comfort and hope for people touched by the bereavement of a child; fundraising started in 2003, and the years that followed were a mixture of tears, cake sales and visits to the construction site until the dream was finally realised on 11th July 2006, when Gloria Hunniford performed the ribbon cutting ceremony.
Situated in an ideal location, the garden is a sanctuary of peace and a perfect place to dwell on the thoughts and memories of children lost, but not forgotten. The garden is circular in shape and enclosed by a pale stone wall, exactly the private haven it was designed to be, with beautiful flower beds planted by Sands members in September 2005.
Talked about for years before it finally came into fruition, the memorial garden was well worth the wait and the hard work put in by the Tunbridge Wells Sands Group. The garden is now fully open, and anyone interested is welcome to visit and enjoy the tranquillity of the surroundings.
