There are just so many ways you can get involved and it doesn’t have to be difficult or time consuming.

Are you able to share your story with the media, volunteer a few hours of your time to knit blankets for our Memory Boxes or sign up to be a Sands Campaigning Voice and lobby your local MP?

This year June will see our first ever Walk for Life event, intended to become an
annual Awareness Month event. We are asking people up and down the country, young or old, community groups, schools and nurseries to come together and walk a minimum of one mile during June. It is an ideal opportunity to get out in the sunshine and walk for fun, whilst raising sponsorship, perhaps in memory of someone, and to raise awareness of stillbirth and neonatal death.

If walking isn’t your thing, then there are a number of other ways you can fundraise during Sands Awareness Month. Why not organise a Sands Strawberry Summer event focusing your fundraising around the humble but very yummy strawberry?

Alternatively, organising something as simple as a Car Boot Sale, Coffee Morning or a Sands Cake Bake can raise hundreds of pounds and every penny makes a difference.

Even if you can’t do anything during June, these are all ways that your family, friends and colleagues can get involved and raise vital awareness of stillbirth and neonatal death.

Consider the people you know through work or the groups you are linked to and advise them of the statistics and the work we do. Anyone can be involved and be a part of the fun from holding a dress down day, to organising a Walk  for Life, baking cakes or arranging a store collection in a local supermarket, all will help raise awareness and funds.

We want as many people as possible to hear about Sands so if you are on Facebook, inform the people you know about Sands Awareness Month and update your Facebook status during June with the following:

“Today in the UK 17 babies will be stillborn or die shortly after birth. This month alone over 500 families will be left devastated. I am helping to break the silence, raising awareness and may even save a life. Will you?”
