Gareth John from London's Heart FM

On the 22nd of April 2007, I completed the Flora London Marathon.
Although I might have been overtaken by the pantomime camel and a tin of baked beans (trust me, that one really hurt!), I did make it through the 26 miles to the Mall.
I finished in 5 hours 23 minutes in what was officially the hottest London Marathon ever, with temperatures hitting 25 degrees. In that heat, I was just happy to get round.
The crowds were amazing - I was blessed by a Catholic priest as I ran past his church in Charlton, was offered a free pint at a pub in Deptford and was cooled down by a London Fire Brigade hose along the Embankment! And to everyone who shouted out my name - thank you so much. It really helped keep me going.
I ran in memory of little Megan, who was stillborn last year. Her parents asked that I run for Sands, the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity. Sands have done so much for Megan's parents, as they have for countless others, helping to rebuild devastated lives. Megan was with me all the way during the Marathon, pushing me on when my wobbly legs were telling me they'd had enough. She got me to the finish line - I've never been so happy to see Buckingham Palace!
