The Arriva Superheroes

Lee Burvill and seven of his fellow bus drivers drove their routes around Southend dressed as superheroes raising nearly £3,000 for Sands.

I decided to do a fundraising event for Sands after my friends lost their baby to stillbirth on 6th July 2007. Along with 7 colleagues we all dressed up as superheroes and the 'Arriva Superheroes' were born.  For a whole week we would drive our buses dressed as Batman, Robin, Batgirl, Wonder Woman, Superman, Captain America, Mr Incredible and The Flash collecting sponsorship from friends and family as well as doing an 'on the bus' collection.

It was an amazing week being dressed up as Batman and the generosity of the public was amazing. They where very supportive and backed us all the way. There were many comments made about the outfits, some were unmentionable but many remarked 'I bet you wished you had the Bat Mobile and not  a bus!' The most embarrassing moment was when I broke down - imagine even a superhero could not run on time or keep the service going whoops!!

I am very proud of our achievements and very grateful to my fellow superheroes who worked very hard alongside me. We all had a fun time but also remembered why we were doing this, in memory of a special little man Callum Alexander Brown who will always be in our thoughts.

We all hope that the money we raised will go along way and help with research and help the families of those that have lost babies to stillbirth.
