Chicken Cluckers

After I lost my first baby Thomas ('Tom') on his due date January 9th this year I felt an urgent need to do something to help raise money for Sands, after we realised what an invaluable service they provide for bereaved parents when their baby dies. So when my team at work asked for nominations for charities that our departmental fundraising could support in 2007, I quickly wrote and asked them to consider Sands. The community team immediately agreed and the fundraising began.

Only eleven weeks after losing Tom I completed a 2.5k swim and early in April the community team arranged an Easter Egg & Spoon race. Four-person teams, some in fancy dress, ran a relay race around the picturesque lake behind Barclaycard House carrying an egg on a spoon (well a bouncy Easter egg!) with prizes being given for the fastest and slowest teams.

Eric the Chicken and members of the community team joined in the fun cheering the teams on, with the 'Chicken Cluckers' just beating the 'Hot Cross Bunnies'. A collection also took place with the chicken strutting his stuff through Barclaycard Northampton.

Barclays supports community events, through a Pound-for-Pound fundraising matching system. This meant all the team entry fees were matched by the bank, resulting in a total of £700 being raised. Including the swim and Grand National sweepstake monies we have raised £2,600 to date with more to come! I am also collecting 'Stamps for Sands'.
