What some of our fundraisers did in 2007

BABIT – the BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN is the dance show with a difference! All the girls are trained dancers but the boys most definitely are not! Sands is one of their charities for 2007 and they’ve donated £3,000 so far and they will continue to raise money for Sands into 2009

Boston & District Sands – held a fun day at the Maze in the Maize near Whaplode over the August Bank holiday weekend raising over £800 (right)

Peter & Lynn Brady – organised a charity golf day in memory of their son Jude and raised over £6,000

Walking 4 Barney – Lincolnshire dad, Martin Brewin walked to work in central London in six days and raised over £14,000 for Sands Read more »

Lee Burvill & colleagues at Arriva buses Southend – dressed up as superheroes for a week as the drove their buses and drove off with nearly £3,000 Read more »

Chicken Cluckers – Katy Byron and colleagues at Barclays raised over £2,600 with a variety of events in memory of her son Thomas stillborn in January 2007 Read more »

Martine Carter – raised over £1,030 with a sponsored walk in memory of her grandson Jacob

Lee Cawood – walked from St Bees on the East coast to Robin Hood Bay on the West and raised £1,908 in memory of his son Bailey Read more »

Christchurch Primary School, Bradford on Avon – have chosen Sands as one of their charities for the next 2 years Read more »

Neil Coultas & Nige Puttock – successfully completed the 2007 Nijmegen Marches and marched 200km over 4 days to raise over £1,000

Angela Graff – Forget Me Not Walk & picinic raised £816 in memory of baby Daisy

Great North Run – Our thanks to the following runners who between them raised over £8,500…….. Rick Berry, Ian Bowdler, Simon Emmet, Kevin Fenwick, Mike Hobbs, James Jury, Denis McCallig, Sarah Roberts, Michelle Settle & Alan Walsh

Great South Run – patron Stein Smart, his mum & friend Louise (pictured right) ran for Sands and raised £1,700 in memory of his son Charlie.

Other team Sands runners pounding round Portsmouth were Sarah Bradbury, Michael Clifford, Jackie Curtin, Matthew Dewberry, Darren Healy, Christopher Howes, Richard Lear, Louise Tooze & James Whittaker who raised a combined total of £3,500.

Congratulations also to Lauren & Harriot Clews who took part in the mini run raising a fantastic £220 and four year old Liam McKean who completed the children’s 1 mile race in memory of his brother Nathan and raised over £100

Race for Grace – raised nearly £450. Cycling in memory of all his children – Grace, Jackie & Tom – Andrew Gordon completed the 161 miles from Irvine to Morecambe in just under 36 hours

Sian Haywood & friends – raised nearly £5,000 with a sponsored gym challenge

Blazing Saddles – Lands End to John O’Groats in just 11 days was the challenge undertaken by Chris Hinitt and his friend Mike (‘Big Dave’). They raised £2,175 in memory of Chris’ daughter Rachael who died aged 20 days in October 2006 Read more »

Nicola Jessop & friends – bravely took part in the Boxing Day Dip at Cromer and raised over £560

Kerry Kerkhoff – conquered her fear of heights to abseil 91 feet down Anglesey’s Column in memory of her daughter Ruby roping in £350

London Marathon & Team Sands – Clayton Aves, Nick Bowers, Stephen Clayton, Trevor Daley, Mark Edlin, Rebecca Fitzgerald, Ian Gilbert, Tony Higgins, Robin Holt, Joanne igo, Kevin Jacob, Gareth John, Bronwyn McKenna, Stephen O’Hara, Sophie Thorner & John Yates with young Ross Earney running in the mini marathon. Between them we are on target to raise £30,000 – our best year to date

South Downs Way – Christopher Proudlove undertook the 100 mile challenge to cycle the entire length of the South Downs Way in memory of his son Alexander stillborn 10th April 2007 and raised over £12,500 Read more »

Joe Richardson – twelve year old Joe (right) cycled his way across the Vale of Glamorgan to school raising nearly £140 in memory of his sister Hannah

Sam Springall – has raised over £3,500 in memory of her son Thomas, including a £1,000 donation from her boss Sir Richard Branson

Dave Sandford – ran home with £100 at the Robin Hood half marathon

Sands Strawberry Summer – allowed fundraisers, groups and networks to spread events & fundraising throughout the whole of June. The idea was embraced with enthusiasm and lots of imagination. Sue Francombe celebrated her birthday with a Strawberry Tea raising £160 and Alison Selwood-Kent sold all things strawberry flavoured collecting £150. Shirley Gittoes and the Welsh network held a Forget Me Not balloon release netting over £550. A series of Forget Me Not Walks were organised, Amanda Deacon walked in memory of Felicity and a walk organised by Angela Graff raised a magnificent £816. Cheryl Hobson held  a combined Forget Me Not walk and Garden Party in memory of David Stephen Daniel and raised £370. Lisa Scanlon a pupil at Cairnshill Primary School supported Sands with a Yellow Day collecting £135 from her friends & teachers. Craig & Christine Ridley organised one of the more unusual events and sold brain-teasing quizzes to raise a mind-boggling £200

Skydiving for Sands – Ritu Sharma (right) leapt away with nearly £2,000 and Niall Watt £1,500 with their tandem skydives

Brett Thake (right) – abseiled down the YMCA in Romford roping in over £741 in memory of his daughter

Tom Weir’s Way – Barry Dennison, Gary Eisenhower, Adrian Jenkins, Samantha Naik, Alan Robertson, Lee Ross & William Taylor raised over £800 walking the West Highland Way

Tolouse Women’s International Group – donated €5,000 the proceeds from their hugely successful Christmas Fair Read more »

Diane Willis – and colleagues at NIG Commercial (part of RBS Insurance) held a Quiz Night & Raffle raising £252 which was matched with £250 RBS Insurance Community Cashback Award
