Research & Prevention

Janet Scott and Charlotte Bevan make up the research team at Sands. Authors of the Saving Babies’ Lives Report 2009, they represent our prevention work at national and international conferences. Their growing network of health professionals and government advisors around the UK is increasingly supportive of our work in raising awareness of the numbers of babies who die every year, and encouraging a commitment to understand why there is so little change to the stillbirth statistics and what more can be done to reduce neonatal mortality.

The research team continues to develop collaborative work among researchers and professionals wherever possible and ensure that health professionals and scientists whose work involves understanding and analysing baby deaths shape the projects they are working on to include parents’ experiences.

The team also responds to regular media requests for information. To hear Janet speaking recently on BBC Radio 4’s File on Four in-depth report on the investigation of neonatal deaths, go to: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00sjcvj#synopsis.
