Media & Communications
The media is a highly effective tool for Sands to raise awareness of the issues surrounding stillbirth and neonatal death, particularly with those we seek to influence such as the government and health authorities and practitioners.
The communications team manages major media campaigns such as the launch of the Saving Babies' Lives Report 2009 and our Seeing and Holding Campaign, as well as handling the many day to day media enquiries we receive at the Sands press office. We also help our supporters holding fundraising events and our groups to prepare and send press releases to their local media.
The communications team not only deals with the media on a daily basis, but also manages our ongoing communications and campaigning programme with Government both at Westminster and the 3 other devolved parliaments. This programme ensures that the issues that matter to Sands are also kept front-of-mind amongst key decision-makers at the highest levels, and aims to push for improvements and changes.
We also ensure that Sands membership and supporters are kept regularly updated on our news and developments via the website, Facebook, the Forum, Footprints, emails and letter.
The communications team consists of:
- Katie Duff, Communications Manager
- Lisa Wardle, Press Officer
- Lyn Peters, Press Officer
- Tara MacDowel, Public Affairs Officer
We rely heavily on the many families who share their stories with the media to truly capture the reality and heartbreak behind the headlines, illustrating so powerfully why the works we do is so vital. We are also looking for more parents, families and friends to get involved with our lobbying and public affairs campaign.
To find out more about becoming a media interviewee or to work with us contacting your local Parliamentary representative to raise awareness of Sands and the issues surrounding stillbirth and neonatal death please contact the Sands press office on 0845 6520 442 or email media(at)uk-sands.org.
